Joshua Knowlton Berry was born and raised in southeastern Massachusetts. During high school he poured coffee and fixed cars. He graduated from Union College, in Schenectady NY, with a dual BA in Spanish and Music. His time at Union included a term in Sevilla, Spain, where he studied flamenco guitar on a grant. He also produced campus concerts by artists such as Wilco and Medeski, Martin and Wood.
Joshua studied at NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program, where he complemented his technical skills by focusing on UX and Interaction Design. At ITP he focused on designing new physical, web, and mobile interfaces. He also accompanied a group to the Azuero Peninsula in Panama to develop ways to promote sustainable building. After graduating Joshua worked with Hans Rosling and the Gapminder foundation to build a game based on his signature global health data visualizations. He also worked with clients including Harper Collins, Livestrong, Slow Food, Global Zero, and Dove.
Currently Joshua is helping NBC Universal to establish a new R&D lab and exploring new possibilities with Kinect and Internet-connected televisions. He continues playing music, pursuing his own work in designing new interfaces, and he works as a freelance concert photographer. His work has been featured in AdAge, Etsy, Corre77, New York Times, and Google I/O. Joshua lives in Brooklyn, New York.
